Established in 1961 by the Putnam County Commission, The Putnam County Development Authority, Inc. is a non-profit organization (quasi-public). The actions of the Authority are determined by a board of directors with 21 members.
Our goal is to give businesses a convenient, one-stop resource for information. To ensure this goal, we work very closely with the West Virginia Development Office, the Putnam County Commission, and many other regional and state organizations. With an abundance of information and knowledge, the Authority is the leading development agency in Putnam County.
With assets of over $15,000,000, the corporation runs three industrial and business parks. Included in the industrial parks are the Eleanor Industrial Park and Putnam Business Park (located on U.S. Route 35 at Fraziers Bottom along the Kanawha River.) Also owned by the Authority is a 45 acre business park site - Hurricane Business Park - at Exit 34 in Hurricane, West Virginia. In 2006, 25 acres of the property was sold to Wal-Mart. This was to be the site for the new Wal-Mart Super Center, which is now open for business.
Putnam County Developmental Authority has three employees, and also prepares site/building packages, works to retain and expand existing business - primarily industrial, serves as a clearing house for revenue bond issues within the county, and prepares marketing and prospect proposals.
Although donations to PCDA are not completely charitable or tax deductible, contributions may be made to PROTEC, INC., a non-profit, private (501)(c)(3) tax exempt organization for the benefit of the Authority.
